Lion Bridge Publishing’s Virtual Book Launch for Rachel Nix’s I Don’t Go Down That Road Anymore

The students of EN 490/590: Lion Bridge Publishing act as the editors, marketers, and designers of Lion Bridge Publishing, a student-run literary press that publishes works as an imprint of the Digital Press at Collier Library, and they would like to invite you all to the virtual launch party for I Don’t Go Down That Road Anymore by Rachel Nix. The event will take place April 20 at 1:00 p.m. on Zoom. At the event, Nix will read samples of her book, and after the reading, Nix and students will participate in a Q&A session. EN 490/590 students in the class have been responsible for the editing, design, and marketing of this book. This event will be a celebration of not only the book publication, but also a celebration of all the work and dedication both the students and the author have put into this poetry collection.

About the book:
I Don’t Go Down That Road Anymore traces intimate geographies of family, place, and womanhood. There, mothers braise like moon and sun, names are tried on and shed, inherited traits prescribe bodily identity as well as metaphysical, and these bodies also learn to be reclaimed. This collection challenges the meaning of leaving as a transformation rather than an escape, and even forgiveness treads suspiciously with its weight being measured, not freely given.
In her praise of the book, Jeanie Thompson, author of The Myth of Water: Poems from the Life of Helen Keller, says, “[O]nce her voice is in your ear, dear reader, you will keep listening for it. Her unabashed truth-telling resonates for a long time.”
About the author:
Rachel Nix is a writer and editor from North Alabama. Her poems have appeared in numerous outlets and have earned her multiple nominations from Best New Poets and Best of the Net. She’s held editorial positions at cahoodaloodaling, Hobo Camp Review, and Pankhearst, where she edited “America is Not the World” – an international anthology of poetry and fiction. She currently serves as an editor for Screen Door Review – an online journal promoting literary voices of the Queer South. When not with her nephew and dogs, Rachel is most likely hearing live bands or plotting a road trip.
